A recent spike in deaths and missing persons throughout the canton has caused an adverse reaction for many High Officials; having led up to the lockdown that was issued on the 12th of Eris during 3024. Along with the addition of more reinforcement by Officials who agreed to update regulations for better protection of citizens.
This new change in policies came with an infamous decision to reinstate the 5-Day Policy in an announcement made during Ceres. Despite the outcry at the new settlement, High Officials are adamant about the policy change and will enforce it accordingly. Many news broadcasts have begun to regularly release reports to keep the public updated on any changes regarding the lockdown.
All establishments will have to close their stores by the 7th of Jupiter; otherwise, they will have to face condemnation or will be forced to shut down by High Officials. Many stores which have online access may be able to continue their business but will have to abide by said policy. Companies will be given tighter scheduling for employees and customers to adhere to keep profits afloat, along with workers still being able to receive compensation from their job. Certain establishments, for example, restaurants, may have to cease operations due to requiring in-person customers.
Many stores have begun the process of laying off employees and sending in paychecks through the mail for them as well. Some even have already closed or shut down their stores throughout the canton, with only a select number of locations continuing operations until otherwise. Locations that continue to be open will be monitored by Officials to make sure the establishment closes by the designated deadline.
There has been an addition to the reactions from laying off employees, several companies have offered a proposal for workers to keep positions in their field. They will allow workers to stay in their job without needing to be laid off; the only exception to this is that workers do not receive payment, as they must stay inside their homes to adhere to policies. These proposals have garnered positive reception, especially when either the 5-Day Policy or lockdown ends.
Thus far, many locations are attempting to provide accommodation for customers to keep business afloat, and employees to preserve their jobs before the policy change. Along with other stores allowing staff to manage and prepare for the new guidelines by allowing them to leave early.
